Hotell i Klaipeda

Go back to Hotels in the Baltic States

Dense and compact, Klaipeda’s centre is easy to get around. Luckily for tourists most hotels are either in the dead centre of town or are within walking distance. Remember that Klaipeda is not only a port town attracting business travellers year round, but also a fairly famous beach town. This means that all summer and on weekends and holidays, reservations are a necessity. Prices below include breakfast unless otherwise noted. When confronted with the receptionist at a hotel, try German or Lithuanian first since the English language won’t get you further than the following:
You: "Hello, do you speak English?"
Receptionist: "Yes."
You: "I would like a room."
Receptionist: dead silence, followed by "Deutsch?"

Astra
Pilies 2, tel. (+370-6) 21 63 82, fax (+370-6) 21 64 20. 12 rooms (singles 160 - 240Lt, doubles 220Lt, lux 300Lt, luxury suite 260 - 300Lt).

Constantly improving, this little hotel by the Old Castle Port and Theatre Square is comfy and inviting. All of the spacious, airy, bright rooms are well-equipped - satellite television, telephone, big beds, hairdryer, modern bathrooms with showers. Get the lux if you want three rooms in which to spread out and relax.

Klaipeda
Naujoji sodo 1, tel. (+370-6) 21 69 71, fax (+370-6) 25 39 11, e-mail: hotel@klaipeda.omnitel.net . 220 rooms (singles 160 - 250Lt, doubles 240Lt, lux 400 - 450Lt, apartments 600Lt).

Klaipeda’s largest hotel, within walking distance of Old Town and the ferry port, offers the same services and atmosphere as a large, impersonal Western hotel. If you opt for lux you get two rooms and a double bed. All rooms have baths and hand-held showers. Services include ‘hairdressing saloon’ and ‘guarded landing for cars’, in addition to massage, car rental and guide services. Be sure to see the panoramic view from the 12th floor. Their lobby newsstand has the best array of media you’ll find in the city. Hertz car rental is in the lobby as well as currency exchange, newsstand, business centre and conference hall (30 - 60 people). Business travellers will appreciate the fax, photocopying, computer and Internet access.

Lugne
Galinio Pylimo 16, tel./fax (+370-6) 21 45 78, tel. (+370-6) 21 42 38. 22 rooms (18 suites 270 - 320 Lt, 4 'Gold-Star' suites 370 - 420Lt).

Right by Market Square (turgaus aikste), this friendly hotel is one of the best in Klaipeda. One of the reasons to stay here are the real double beds - even two if you want. In true decadence there are televisions with satellite reception in both the bedroom and the sitting room. All rooms have showers. The 'Gold-Star' suites are a bit pinker than the rest. The pricey in-house restaurant/beer bar is open 12:00 - 24:00. Additionally the service is some of the best we've encountered - very sincere.

Fortuna
Poilsio 64, tel. (+370-6) 27 52 42, fax (+370-6) 36 01 74. 8 rooms (4 singles 160 - 200Lt, 2 doubles 200Lt, 2 lux 293Lt).

A guest house with tidy rooms that are almost always occupied. We like the top-floor rooms the best - wood-panelled and cosy. All rooms have showers and satellite television. Services include fax, safes, laundry and guarded parking. Located south of the city centre. Poilsio runs parallel to and is between Taikos and Minijos and is below Naikupes and above Statybininku.

Jura
Malunininku 3, tel. (+370-6) 39 32 60/39 98 57, fax (+370-6) 21 16 93. 32 rooms (Renovated rooms: 3 singles 180 - 250Lt, 6 doubles 200 - 250Lt, 2 suites 350 - 450Lt. Unrenovated: 4 singles 90Lt, 17 doubles 120Lt, 1 triple 150Lt).

Favoured by those with business at the port of Klaipeda, this friendly hotel just a few minutes walk from the centre is always improving. Rooms range from mediocre to comfy. Some rooms have tiny balconies. The lux is classy with wood furniture and a plush, fluffy bed. Renovated rooms have showers. Unrenovated rooms have baths. Unrenovated doubles for 100Lt have no television. Restaurant open 12:00 - 24:00. The sauna costs 50Lt/hr.

Nese
Sportininku 46, tel. (+370-6) 25 74 01, fax (+370-6) 21 53 72. 6 rooms (singles 150Lt, doubles 200Lt, lux 300Lt).

This newcomer to the Klaipeda hotel scene may be small, but it's nicely put together and has a solid feel to it. The modern rooms are spacious, clean, comfy and carpeted. All rooms have balconies and showers. The lux has a bath. Amenities include parking, car rental and laundry. Diversions include sauna (60Lt/hr), weights room (60Lt/hr), table tennis (40Lt/hr) and Dzonas Smitas pizza restaurant (open 12:00 - 24:00). To get there from the centre take minibus N°2 to the stadium. Incidentals are sold in the lobby for those of you who forgot your toothbrush or shampoo. The receptionists, though not fluent, can speak some English and are helpful.

Parkas
Liepojos 3, tel. (+370-6) 25 88 83, fax (+370-6) 29 88 92, e-mail: hotelparkas@usa.net . 27 rooms (2 singles 120Lt, 23 doubles 140 - 180Lt, 2 lux 260Lt).

Considering the spiffy, new exterior of this German-Lithuanian joint venture hotel, the tired, old interior is a bit disappointing. Nevertheless, the rooms are relatively clean, neat and functional even if they tend to be a bit dark. Doubles for 140Lt have no televisions. Doubles for 180Lt are bigger than those for 160Lt. Rooms do not have telephones. Follow Manto towards Palanga to find this roadside hotel. It's about a ten-minute drive to the centre or to the sea. Indoor parking available.

Prusija
Simkaus 6, tel. (+370-6) 25 59 63, fax (+370-6) 25 43 77. 8 rooms (5 singles 160Lt, 1 double 200Lt, 2 lux 320Lt).

You'll probably feel like you're staying with friends if you decide to bunk at this family-run hotel. The beds in their singles are big enough for two, but the rooms are just big enough for one. The triple is perfect for a family of three - a double bed and one single bed. The rooms though small and tucked here and there are pleasant, well-kept and have a bit of a country decor. The hotel's location on a quiet street near Old Town and the Old Castle Port is great. Their next-door restaurant serves Caucasian cuisine.

Sveciu Namai
Janonio 11, tel. (+370-6) 31 09 00, fax 31 09 01. 12 rooms (4 singles 180Lt, 7 suites 250Lt, 1 luxury suite 320Lt).

Find this guest house catering to business travellers in a sweet, little building off of Manto, the main street. Although its lobby is unimpressive, the rooms are clean, quiet and recently renovated. All rooms have a mini bar and satellite TV. The luxury suite has a bath while the rest have showers. The luxury in the luxury suite lies in the fact that it has three rooms. If you have packed badly take advantage of their lobby kiosk stocked with incidentals. Guarded parking, car rental and Godunas - the flashy café-bistro next door. Each extra guest costs 80Lt.

Vetra
Taikos 80a, tel. (+370-6) 27 50 02, fax (+370-6) 27 86 22. 34 beds (singles 200 - 250Lt, doubles 200Lt, suite 400Lt).
The Vetra may be behind the times when it comes to decor and amenities, however the service is sweet and friendly. Find this low-rise hotel behind the Delfinas market. Besides being a place to sleep, this hotel boasts a bar (open 08:00 - 04:00), a sauna (75Lt/hr) and a show dance programme in their restaurant (open 20:00 - 04:00, closed Sun, Mon, Tue, Wed). Car, yacht and bus rental, transport to the stations and airport, tour guides and travel agency services available. Rooms have showers; the have baths. Penny-pinchers - keep in mind that one double bed costs more than two single beds.

Low-Budget

Klaipeda has only one small youth hostel, and very little else in the low-budget price range, but here’s from what poorer travellers have to choose. However, we recommend bed and breakfast accommodation as the best value.

[Upmarket] [Mid-Range] [Low-budget] [Out of Town]  [Lagoon]  [Back to top of page]

Baltija
Manto 8, tel. (+370-6) 21 37 27. (21Lt/person).

Run by a bunch of old ladies, this former dormitory has dreary but tidy rooms in a choice location right on the main street. Its downfall comes from the horrifically dirty shared bathrooms and showers. Tends to attract permanent residents. Consider this review a warning rather than a recommendation.

International Youth Hostel
Klaipeda Travellers’ Guesthouse
Turgaus 3-4, tel. (370-6) 21 49 35/(8-285) 33 104,  6 beds (48 - 50Lt/person).

e-mail: oldtown@takas.lt

Right in the heart of Old Town and close to the ferry port, this hostel has a friendly and smiling staff. Ask for a map with the recommended pub-crawl route(one by foot and the other by bicycle!). If you book by e-mail you get the added bonus of a one-day free bike rental and a free beverage of your choice (cold or hot). The world's a lot nicer with people like these in it.

Vetrunge
Taikos 28, tel. (+370-6) 25 48 01/25 48 08. 49 rooms (singles 40 - 60Lt, doubles 100 - 180Lt).

Recent renovations have improved the hallways and stairwells, but the rooms are still dated. Find the hotel on the fifth and sixth floor. The administrator is on the second floor. The hotel building is host to many businesses including a café, hairdresser, travel agency and visa service. Now that you think you want to stay here, let us warn you that the Viktorija (see next review) is a better value.

Viktorija
Simkaus 2, tel. (+370-6) 21 36 70. 32 rooms (singles 45Lt, doubles 60Lt, suite 120Lt).
A British company has purchased the hotel and plans to turn it into a five-star hotel by the turn of the century. So take advantage of this cheap, centrally-located, clean, safe hotel now while you can afford it. Rooms are drab - the management likes to joke that it's practically a museum of a typical 1960s hotel. Bathrooms and showers (3.50Lt) are shared. Suites have their own toilets and showers. Great for backpackers who can handle the less-than-modern decor. You'll also find a barber, currency exchange and travel agency here. They'll even let you keep your bicycle in your room. A clean, cheap café (open 08:00 - 19:00, Sun 08:00 - 17:00) is also in the hotel. No breakfast.

Out of Town

[Upmarket] [Mid-Range] [Low-budget] [Out of Town]  [Lagoon]  [Back to top of page]

By the Sea

Melnrage beach is more polluted than the popular Giruliai; however, both have litter-filled sand. From Klaipeda reach either by minibus N°4 or 6.

Morena

A three-minute walk is all that separates this hotel from the beach. A 15-minute ride (4km) on minibus N°4 or 6 is all that separates the hotel from Manto Street in Klaipeda. Be sure to request a charming wood-panelled attic room. Beware the double-level rooms, though, they've got steep staircases. All rooms have TV, bath, shower and telephone. Luxury suites have a kitchen and separate entrance. Room service available or tromp down to the restaurant in person. All rooms have television, bath, shower and telephone, while luxury suites have a kitchen and separate entrance. Breakfast costs 15Lt.

Slaito 18a, Giruliai, tel. (+370-6) 29 01 54, fax (+370-6) 29 01 37. 75 beds (singles 135 - 180 Lt, doubles 175 - 250Lt, triple 320 -380Lt).

Enjoy the indoor plunge pool, sauna (Finnish or Russian), garage parking and banquet hall. The sauna is open to the public and to guests for 100 - 130Lt/h.

Vienkiemis
Padvaru Kaimas, tel. (+370-58) 46 425. 6 suites (doubles 80 - 120Lt).

This country hideaway a 30-minute drive outside of Klaipeda comes highly recommended for its idyllic setting and great value. Rooms don't have phones (but you're here to escape all that, remember?) but everything else you could need is available, including sauna, billiards, café and boat rental. Breakfast not included.

On the Lagoon

About 50km from Klaipeda, the fishing villages lining the Curonian Lagoon have been left behind by the tides of summer tourists flooding the area. With no loud music and not an amber hawker in sight, the countryside is perfect for a quiet retreat. The surroundings may be pastoral, but this isn't unspoiled nature. Soviet housing blocks found their way even to this corner of the Union. Tourist facilities are scarce, but locals are welcoming. The linden-lined roads here flood nearly every spring and fall.
