Hong Islands comprises a number of large and small limestone islands. Koh Hong itself is the largest island. These limestone island have a beach and coral reefs in both deep and shallow water levels. Boats leave for Ko Hong from Ao Nang and the trip takes about one hour. A canoe trip to Ko Hong organised by some travel agents at Ao Nang is a popular activity among tourists.
Koh Hong is one of the islands in Phang Nga national park. Koh Hong and the Phang Nga national park area feels like a land from a forgotten time.
The Mu Koh
Hong archipelago is located directly west from cape plong and
includes the islands of Ko Hong (or Ko Lao Pi Le), Ko Laka (or Ko Saka),
Ko Lao Riam and Ko Pak Ka. Ko Hong is the largest island in the
archipelago.
This
limestone island has a beach and coral reefs in both deep and
shallow water. To get to the islands takes about one hour by boat from Ao
Nang.
From Ao Nang the boats will head southwest until they round the
head at Cape Haan Naak. Here you will find the royal residence of the
king's daughter. The course will then change to northwest as your
captain takes you up and into the Mu Ko Hong archipelago.
The
Mu Ko Hong archipelago makes a great daytrip for seacanoeing
because of the sheltered lagoon inside
the island, hence the name Ko Hong (which in Thai means Room).
