Marinas

There are more than 60 marinas in this unique archipelago. All with basic facilities like gas, drinking water, electric outlets, toilets, showers, provisions and garbage containers

"For the occasional visitor, the archipelago may seem to be quite homogeneous, even if you observe differences between inner and outer islands. But there are significant differences between the southern part and the northern part."

From Bertil Hedenstierna: "Skärgårdsöar och fiskekobbar"

We recommend reading of Bertil Hedenstiernas excellent book: "Skärgårdsöar och fiskekobbar" (Unfortunately available in Swedish only). It discusses the archipelago in view of these differences since the differences have had significance for the development of mentality and history of the region. Hedenstierna separates the archipelago into a southern and a northern part along the borders found in both the church and in old charts. The border goes along a line from Strömma Canal, across Kanholmsfjärden and eastward.

The differences are geological and topographical, the forms of the southern part are south-north, long and low, change, via a border zone, to the northern part with its west-east forms, higher and wilder.
