Jungfruskär

Most of the islands in the Jungfruskär area are low. The beaches are flat rocks interspersed with thich growths of reeds. An excellent anchorage can be found in Södra Fladen between Jungfruskär, Kuggmaren and Grönskär.

The area was earlier an excellent spot for fishing herring. It is likely the reson why people settled here at the beginning of the 19th century. Both on Jungfruskär and Grönskär there are small homesteds. The soil was not rich enough to support farming so mostly it was potatoes and hay for the cattle sig.

Jungfruskär is one of the earliest purchases by Skärgårdsstiftelsens tidigaste förvärv. The island was purchased in 1963 and Grönskär in 1979.
