Herrhamra |
Herrhamra is found in documents for the first time in the 1660s. The estate was then owned by Margareta Brahe, Bengt Bengtsson Oxenstierna's widow. In 1719 the Russians burned the estate to the ground. It was then located to Ankarudden.
Herrhamra was the only manor on Torö and is still the only manor in the community. The main building is in empire style and is almost intact.
Herrhamra manor is located to the southern part of Torö in a flat landscape among fields sloping down towards a couple of coves at Ankarudden. The country road from Nynäshamn passes just W of Herrhamra and is lined with beech trees.
Herrhamra was rebuilt where it stands today. The main building is two-storey and painted white. It was built in 1850 in empire style for J O Hallström, architect was A L Hedin, father of the explorer Sven Hedin. 1916 Herrhamra was purchese by a ship operator, Brodin, from Gävle.
S of Herrhamra, next to the country road, there is a small fenced in burial ground. One of the oldest gravestones is dated to 1660. The burial ground is still being used, and was particularly favored by pilots at Landsort and onknown seafarers who lost their lives in these waters.
On the summit of the hill at Ankarudden there is wooden windmill. At the foot of the hill is the miller's old house.
