Norrviken

The name Ingmarsö comes from the shallow lakes (sv: inmar) on the island. Ingmarsö has been populated since the dark ages. In the middle of the 16th century, Ingmarsö had four farmers obliged to pay taxes, fire wood, butter, eggs and fish. Ingmarsö is an active island today, situated between Ljusterö and Möja in the middle of Stockholm archipelago. The island has a permanent population of 150 people, in the summer many more. Ingmarsö offers the charm of older archipelago buildings, an open archipelago landscape and active farms.

History

Around 1870 the steamer came to the island and a coupe of decades later city people began to discover the island. The school was built in 1901. In the middle of the 60s the school had only five students, but today it is teeming with students. The population growth has improved opportunities to find jobs and today you find light industry as well as boatyards and services. So has Stockholm Taxi located its exchange to Ingmarsö, from where they handle taxiorders for all of Stockholm.

Sevärt

Ingmarsö offers many opportunities for entertainment and relaxation. You can hike, bike, swim, fish or just walk around. For backpacers there is a marked trail towards Finnhamn. Finnhamn can be reached by rowing - backpackers can use  rowboats for free in order to cross the channels.
