San Vicente de la Barquera

San Vicente de la Barquera is one of those seaboard villages so carefully included on the horizons that it would be impossible to imagine the landscape without it s houses and monuments. Located on a hill which guards the entrance to a deep estuary, the city is presided over by a Gothic temple which dominates a splendid panorama. Crowded about the church, the old quarter of San Vicente de la Barquera is a fine example of Renaissance architecture. At its feet, the port city and the long bridge which has crossed the estuary since the 15th century completes the picture of an old town, inclined at the same time in the direction of the sea and in the direction of the rugged inland valleys.
