Pontevedra

The capital of the province, located at the head of its ría, Rias Baixas, and its origins go back to the time of the Romans. It enjoyed its moment of greatest importance towards the end of the Middle Ages and the start of the Modern Era (from about the middle of the 15th c until the middle of the 16th c). During this time it became one of the most important cities in Galicia, especially thanks to the great wealth brought about by the abundance of sardines in the ría.

Pontevedra is a city with a marine spirit, situated where the river Lerez meets the ocean. More than 70.000 people live in the Capital of the Rias Baixas.

Pontevedra is a city with old history, kind people, a pleasant climate and good food and wines. Here you can find the region’s best wines and seafood, as well as the Rias Baixas’ magical beaches and scenery.
