Castro Urdiales

Castro Urdiales is a promising introduction for the yachtsman coming to the Cantabrian coast for the first time: An esplanade made up of glassed-in façades, carefully painted white, and directly facing the sea. On one side of the port, there is a magnificent Gothic church beside the sea and near it, a medieval fortress and a Roman bride stand out against the horizon. Contrasting with the refined 18th century atmosphere which envelops the esplanade, the narrow streets of the old quarter help to maintain the unmistakable seaboard air. From here, the national highway scarcely draws away from the coast in order to reveal some very beautiful scenery.
