This delightful traditional Galician fishing village is just under 50 km from Santiago de Compostela, on a cape (cabo) on the western coast of Spain. Cabo Finisterre - literally 'the end of the earth' and traditionally thought to be just that - is the westernmost point in all Europe, an ancient holy place for Druids, Romans and Christians. The Costa da Morte (Coast of Death), south of the Cape, is a dramatic landscape of cliffs and sandy beaches.

Finisterre harbour, which despite everything the pilot books tell us, is really a quaint little old Spanish fishing town.

The real Finis Terrae ("End of the World") is located at the Touriņan cape, farther north and west of the town of Finisterrre.

The lighthouse is one of those mythical places which is always enchanting. Beaten and lashed by the four winds, it makes up a very majestic image very much in accordance with the fact that for many centuries it was considered "The End of the World".
