Scotland

It has been said that if you can sail in the waters of the West coast of Scotland you can sail anywhere. Off the West coast that is probably true. Most sailors will have heard of Katabatic Winds. For those who have not experienced them - believe me - they can get you in all sorts of trouble and that is one of the things which make sailing around Scotland interesting. Stay away from the Lee side of the mountains in high winds. They come raging down the sides of the mountains and can flatten a boat very easily.
