At lake Ladoga you enter the Russian river system. The rivers, lakes and canals are navigable, without having to drop your mast, all the way from St Petersburg to the Black Sea! In the East you find the big lake Onega. From Onega you can sail up to the White Sea and on to North Norway!
According to our information (-98) it is now possible for foreign yachts to cruise lake Ladoga and Lake Onega. A voyage to other rivers and canals requires, so far, that you sail under Russian flag. A British yacht did that by a chartering agreement with their Russian hosts. Under Russian flag the yacht could proceed. However a lot of paperwork was needed.
The regulations are shifting all the time, and it's not impossible that it you soon can sail under your own flag down the mighty Russian rivers.
