Baltijsk Kaliningrad Morskoj YC Peterhof  Pionersk Primorsk
St Petersburg Vyborg

Only the Baltic coast of Russia.

Marina Position Address Information
Peterhof     From the main fairway, two buoyed fairways runs southwards towards the small harbour. The harbour is called by the fast hydrofoils from St Petersburg. Sometimes you can enter the port but otherwise it is possible to anchor outside, towards the outside of the pier. You can not expect any service for yachts here.
Vyborg

Vyborg, in the eastern part of the Gulf of Finland - is a gateway to Lake Saimaa. Vyborg is an old town with Swedish, Finnish and Russian history. The town was established 700 years ago and it is full of historic sights, for example - the Castle of Vyborg. This lively Carelian town has also old boating and seafaring traditions.

Sailing to Viborg, you just follow the fairway. Coming from W you first visit the Finnish border post at Santi. Coming from Kronstadt/St Petersburg you have a long way. Vessels are not permitted to stop at Björkö or Björkösund (Russian: Berezovij islands and city of Primorsk). It is military area and closed for foreigners.

To Vyborg it is compulsory with pilot, even for pleasure crafts. You call for the pilot using VHF. The pilot will enter the boat outside island Vihrevoj, SW Vysockij.

Tervaniemi is the name of the guest harbour and it is situated in the heart of the town opposite the Castle of Vyborg. The harbour is sheltered and guarded and it is also ideal for families with children. At the beginning of the jetty there is a summer cafe and kiosk. Mooring is easy and safe at the stable concrete landing stage and it has 80-100 places for boats. Tervaniemi is a continuously developing harbour, which offers boating guests a natural rest. Visas and passports are required by all crewmembers while in Russian waters.

Morski Yacht Club is located in Tervaniemi guest harbour opposite the castle. Reasonably secure, electricity and water claimed drinkable, BBQ open-air restaurant. The Director of the Club, Igor is very helpful. Open air and covered markets nearby with excellent restauant in round tower, good shopping town. This is a possible entry point for St. Petersburg on the same visa, and also at foot of Saimaa Canal into Finland.

Kaliningrad

There are three harbours in the Kaliningrad area which can be visited by yachts; Kaliningrad, Pionersk and Baltijsk. Foreign visitors still need a special permission from FSB(equivalent to KGB) to visit the port of Baltijsk.

Both Kaliningrad and Pionersk are open for visitors, but a written notice of arrival should be submitted to the Customs Post of Kaliningrad by the hosting Yacht Club or an agent, at least 72 hours prior to the boat`s arrival. The notice should include: -ETA -ETD -LOA, Beam, Draught -Flag -Home Port -Itinerary -Sail Number(if any) -Reg.No.

Kaliningrad     You approach Kaliningrad with pilot. The yacht club is situated in the easternmost part of Kaliningradskij Saliv, S of the city, not in the city itself. The waters are shallow with huge banks. Kaliningrad marina has water and electricity. Berthing fee is 3usd per yacht per day.

Pionersk      Pionersk has water and electricity. Berthing fee is 3usd per yacht per day.

Baltijsk

Approaching Baltijsk, situated at the inlet to Kaliningradskij Saliv is pure high sea sailing. If you're coming from N, look out for Kaliningrad's northwest point. Mys Taran. The water outside this point is shallow and you have to go around the buoyage.

The nautical situation at Baltijsk is similar to that at Klaipeda. On the northern shore you have the mainland with a town. On the other side of the sea channel you have the southern point of a spit. Well inside, the protected inner sea is opening.

The yacht harbour of the Port of Baltijsk is within the Naval Base Area. The facilities are rather modest: water, but no electricity. Berthing is free.

St Petersburg

From Kronstadt it is a day's sailing into the city. From Kronslot at Kronstadt there is a dredged fairway marked with buoys, called "Morskoy Kanal". Take the "Morskoy kanal" from Kronslot to Buoy 33 (at 59º55,17' N - 30º0,60' E) then 060 to the fairway buoy (at 59º56.00' N -  30º 3.70' E) - then 065 to buoy "2" (at 59º57,23' N - 30º9.03' E).

A well-buoyed channel with leading marks (red lights ) on Krestovskiy Island. At the end of the fairway a direct route is taken to the North-facing opening of the marina basin. The huge futuristic Y/C building, overlooking the harbour is well seen from the fairway. Sail between sand banks created by the Neva River, avoiding short cuts.

Recommended for large and/or deep draught craft. Mooring is bows-on to pontoons or outer mole (which provides best shelter) from stern buoys. Large craft can lie alongside T-ends of pontoons. 24-hour security overlooks the basin. Security guards on main gate. Vladimir Ivankiv can arrange to supply drinking water (not cheap). This club has the most foreign visitors. Water taps are adjacent to the pontoons. Electricity (220V, 2-pin continental). New showers 2000. Restaurant was refurbished and re-opened in 1999. Kiosk with B-B-Q. Plenty of space. Crane (12.5 ton) can be used for lowering masts. Excellent repair facilities. Easy access to town with a frequent service and single trolleybus ride Number 7, which terminates 500 m away, goes direct to Nevsky Prospect. New Metro station a few hundred metres. An excellent shower and sauna is available in a GRP workshop at $2 per person, and other equally charged facilities may be available in a small cruise ship moored alongside.

Tricky access due to narrow fairway and minimal buoyage; by prior arrangement and/or VHF contact, the Club will send out a launch to guide you through the shallow approach. With strong E winds the maximum depth is only 3 metres, but the deep water difficult to find. Mooring is bows-on to a pontoon from buoys. Some are about 30 m from the pontoon, so need long warps. Rather crowded. Water taps are adjacent to pontoons. Electricity (220V, 2-pin continental). Smart new sauna and shower in club building. Friendly restaurant and bar refurbished in 1999. Chandlery. Crane. Perimeter fence with 24 hour guard and dogs. There are always other yachtsmen around who will keep an eye on your boat, so one feels secure and welcome here. Several shops including bakery, pharmacy, etc. at 1 km. Attractive surroundings between river, Olympic rowing lake and park. Winter storage facilities. Alexander Maximadji has an office with secretary opposite the club building, and is most helpful. He can also arrange telephone calls.  Although the most remote of the three clubs, a new Metro station is 700 metres walk, and involves one change for Nevsky Prospect.
