A port, seaside resort, tourist centre on the Baltic coast of Poland, approx 120 km from Gdansk and Gdynia. An ancient Slavic fishing settlement. Town charter in 1290. From 1361 it belonged to the Hansa. A Pomeranian Dukes castle from the end of the 14th century. Town walls with a 14th century defensive gate. In the 14th century Gothic Marian church the sarcophagus of duke Erik (d. 1459), great grandson of Polish King Kazimierz the Great. The Church of St. George (15th-16th century), late Gothic chapel of St. Gertrude. Seaside resort of the district of Darlowko.
The town and harbour are situated at the mouth of the Wieprza river. The commercial harbour consists of an avanport, the Port of Darlowko (fishing port) and the main basins in Darlowo. The entrance is formed by two concrete moles extending over 400 m. from each side of the river's mouth. It is 38 m. wide and has a max. depth of 7.0 m.
The avanport is an outer harbour with depths not exceeding 6.0 m.
The port channel is dredged to the depth of about 5.5 m. and has a bottom width of about 23.0 m., allowing vessels to meet narrowings. The depths in the port basins are 4.0-5.0 m.History:
The foundation took place in 1271 through Witzlaw II from Rügen. After the decay of the settlement and the reestablishment, it became a member of the Hansa League in 1312 and had in the 16th century important trade with Scandinavia and Poland.
The Baltic bath Darlowko was opened 1936. The greatest importance had the city as a port in the delta of the Wieprza. Darlowo (Ruegenwalder) port was in the Middle Ages the most important port between Kolberg and Danzig.
1945 it was turned over to Poland is now called Darlowo and belong to the Woiwodschaft Koszalin (Koeslin).

There is no fairway buoy.
Coming from the lake one can recognize the large tower of the Marienkirche and the grain silo. With course 128° steer towards Marienkirche, then 106° into the port entrance and into the Wieprza.
Characteristics:
Currents run across the port entrance. With storm or with rough sea one should avoid this harbour. The high sea and the strong current outside the port entrance are extremely dangerous.
Moorings:
These are assigned at the bank promenade. Here one fastens on the east bank of the river.
With rough sea and wind from west it is to be remained impossible being in the Wieprza because of the quay wall. In the silos there were even toilets and also passable showers. If in the silos one works and on the quay walls of ships load and will unload, sport boats cannot there naturally put on.
