Egersund |
Egersund, in the county of Rogaland, is a small town on the SW coast of Norway with about 13 300 inhabitants. Many of the inhabitants have jobs related to fishing, offshore and local administration. Egersund has long traditions as a seaport town, and today has one of Norway's biggest fishing harbours.
Egersund is a nice place with many old wooden houses, an old church, a number of old stone bridges and nice scenery. Before 1979 Egersund had a large pottery factory (1847 - 1979), and as a result of that today has a pottery museum. You will find beautiful and exciting scenery (wild, with many small valleys, lakes, mountains and cultivated areas) in the surroundings of Egersund.
Egersund is situated about 80 kilometers south of Stavanger and 550 kilometers east of Oslo. You can get to Egersund by boat, car, train or by plane to Stavanger.
The Egersund district have hotels, camping grounds and a guest harbour. Egersund also have some restaurants and discos. Hauen kro is a pub / restaurant in the good old style which is also worth mentioning.
You will find a rich cultural life in Egersund. Many Christian-, youth- and sports associations, and there are a lot of music- and song activities. In the summertime Egersund can offer a Fishery day", different summer shows, a music festival etc.
