Son Saura |
Son Saura is one of the largest bays of Menorca. It has two halves; the western part, very open to the waves and currents, and the eastern part, more protected from the weather and an ideal place for a swim in calm waters. The bay is best reached by boat, or by car on an asphalt road that ends at the house of the Count of Torresaura. In the season the land owner charges a small fee for the road and parking by the cala. In the off season, here starts a 40 minutes walk if the gates are locked, and a continous opening and closing of gates follows.
Follow a sign posted minor road from the southern ring road at Ciudadella. The track is unmistakable and leads to a protected and beautiful sheltered bay, with gently shelving pure white sand and no facilities. No bars, No restaurants, and hardly any people, but a parking lot.
