Punta Prima, formerly well-known as Sandy Bay, is a wide beach located in the oriental south end of the island, in front of it there is the well-known island Illa de l'Aire, where inhabits the endemic species of small lizard “podarcis lifordii Melanica”, a subspecies that is characterized by the dark pigmentation of its skin and for its curious paper in the pollination of the plants of the island.
The beach of Punta Prima presents white sands and clean waters to which affect the winds of the second quadrant.
Punta Prima has two or three hotels, a couple of small hostels and a selection of good villas to rent. With a very good selection of bar / restaurants two supermarkets shops and car hire etc. There has been a lot of development in the last two or three years, and this looks set to continue, the resort is growing into a fine place to take your holidays. It has a very good and extremely attractive beach. But it can be dangerous with strong currents at certain times.
It has all type of services and in the built urbanization to their surroundings there are numerous hotels, apartments, restaurants and bars of all classes.
Facilities Place Contact Address Information Lodging Eating El Faro is beautifully situated at the far end of the beach overlooking the sea- there are good dining areas inside and out- Good food and delicious deserts. Hotel Pueblo A buffet style menu served in the downstairs restaurant at a set price (eat as much as you wish). Payment is made at the main desk as you enter the hotel. A ticket is issued for your entrance to the dining area, excellent value. Casa Fermin on the front just behind the beach is one of Punta Prima's best restaurant's, very clean the staff are fast and really friendly [We took a two and a half year old one night who would not sit still that night, the staff never bothered at all and even talked to her when they had time]. We had the 'menu del dia' the food was very good and excellent value for money Noray situated on the beach (there are tables with umbrellas where you enjoy a nice cool drink!), there's lively music during the evening and it is all lit up a night when you can really let your hair down. They have an excellent selection of wines on show where you can choose your bottle (in the main Restaurant Area which boasts fantastic sea views ( the lighthouse on the Island opposite beams its light across the shore, ideal for a Romantic dinner for two!) We received excellent service together with very reasonable prices! El Faro" or The Lighthouse This is the restaraunt on the far right of the resort with lovely views. It is kept very clean and run by a really nice English guy called Sean who was always very attentive. 'The food was great at about 1200pts (June'01) for the main course. There wasn't any veggie dishes and they were having trouble getting hold of some delicious deserts. Plenty of the frozen kind though.'
