Mosta & Naxxar

Mosta has been occupied by settlers since early times and officially became a parish in 1610. The current church is now famous for its huge dome which remained intact despite being penetrated by a bomb which then rolled through the church, that was full of people at the time, and still failed to explode.

Mosta has many fascinating sites linked to its history from the Turks to the British including chapels, catacombs, olf houses and fort Mosta on the Victoria Lines which stretch across the valley to Naxxar. Naxxar has several small interesting chapels and the Parish Church has 2 museums housing original processional statues dating back 200 years, paintings vestments and religious artifacts.

Palazzo Parisio, once the home of the Maltese noble family Scicluna, is now open to the public. Besides the Victoria Lines there are two small towers which are unique to the islands - The Captain's Tower and Gauci's Tower. Of archaeological interest are the pre-historic remains found in the surrounding countryside and the cart-ruts on the ridge alongside the Victoria lines.
