Gozo

Gozo is a third the size of Malta, is less densely populated, greener, quiter, and maintains its own identity. Of particular interest are the temples, over 5,000 years old and the Citadel whose huge hilltop walls enclose museums, narrow streets and Auberges, chapels, the cathedral with a vast trompe-l'oeil dome and small private residences. All giving a perfect feel of how life went on within the city walls.

Gozo provides a tranquil haven for a tempo and scene change.

The charm of Gozo is apparent the moment you arrive there.  Greener, more rural and smaller than Malta, life on Gozo moves at a leisurely pace.  The rhythms dictated by the seasons, fishing and agriculture.

In winter and spring, the Island is covered with flowering herbs and lush crops.  In summer, it’s awash with oleander, bougainvillea and geranium.

Gozo is steeped in myth. Thought to be the legendary Calypso’s isle of Homer’s Odyssey, it’s a peaceful, mystical backwater. Baroque churches and old stone farmhouses dot the countryside.

Its rugged landscape and spectacular coastline await exploration. Choose from rocky inlets to red sand beaches or sail, snorkel, dive and fish.
But there’s more.  Gozo comes complete with historical sites, forts and amazing panoramas. Plus one of the archipelago’s best-preserved prehistoric temples, Ggantija.  Not to mention a nightlife and cultural calendar all its own, and some great dining out.

Gozo offers beaches with swimming from rocks or sandy bays, countryside and charming villages all offering a welcome and an opportunity to savour a bygone time. For those who prefer more "life", many seaside holiday areas offer water sports, scuba-diving, cinemas and discos.

Gozo can be reached by a car ferry service which runs continually throught the summer months and hourly in the winter. There is also a helicopter service.

Gozo – another world
Stepping off the car ferry in Mgarr on Malta’s neighboring island of Gozo is like entering a completely different world. Where Malta is pulsating and driven, Gozo is quite the opposite. This island is neat and peaceful. There is only one traffic light here. The local inhabitants take pride in keeping everything spotless – even the pavements. There is no nightlife to speak of here but the beautiful and largely unspoiled nature more than compensates.Gozo.
