Palma, the island's capital, has a population of approximately 300,000, which is practically half of the entire population of the island. It stretches some 15 km along the coastline, from El Arenal and Palma beach in the east as far as the cosmopolitan district of Cala Mayor.Activities of all kinds are more than well catered for here. There are restaurants, cafeteries, pubs, concert halls, discotheques, a bull-ring and all types of shows, offering the visitor entertainment and amusement at all times.
The whole coast offers at the very best anchorages for the daytime. There are places of great beauty between Torrent de la Regana and Cape Blanco, where one can anchor to bathe when the weather is fine. To spend the night one must continue in the direction of the east coast, whose large coves begin in Cala Pi.

This royal yacht club was founded in 1948 making it the oldest in the Balearics. It is situated near the centre of town and offers good security with easy access for all nautical goods and services. There is a full service yard within the club itself for yachts up to about 50tn. For larger yachts there are plentiful facilities at some of the other yards in the bay. The club sports a pleasant swimming pool and outside bar area, plus an excellent restaurant. It is the base for some of Spain's most prestigious regattas such as the King's Cup and the Princess Sofia Trophy, in which many members of the Spanish Royal Family frequently participate.
