"Helier was martyr on the island of Jersey, Britain. Also called Helerous, he was murdered by pagans he was evangelizing. He was born in Tongres, Belgium, and raised by a priest; later, he spent time with St. Marculf at Nanteuil."
St Helier is the charming, historical capital of Jersey which takes its name from the above hermit saint, whose cell still stands on an island in the bay. Next to it sits the 400-year old Elizabeth Castle, which now houses a military museum. For a captivating history of the island visit the award-winning Jersey Museum.
