St Aubin

St Aubin is at the western end of the magnificent crescent shaped beach which extends from St Helier, Jersey's Capital, at the eastern end of St Aubin's Bay.

St Aubin's landmarks are the delighful harbour and the ancient St Aubin's Fort which can be walked out to at low tide.

The Old Harbour was built in 1675 and provided a safe anchorage until St Helier Harbour was completed in 1803.

A busy mercantile community sprung up around St Aubin and to this day you can still see many of the original old merchant's houses, especially along the Bulwarks behind the inner harbour.

In terms of walks, should you have a few hours to spare, the old railway line to Corbiere Lighthouse, which has now been pedestrianised, is one of the loveliest walks on the island (about 4 miles to Corbiere).

A shorter but very interesting walk with fantastic views of St Aubin's Bay, is up the old cobbled street of Rue de la Crocquet, starting from the Trafalgar Pub and ending up going down La Haule Hill from the top of Rue de la Crocquet, back down to the beach at St Aubin's and then along the railway walk where the steam trains used to run from St Helier to the Terminus at St Aubin, now the Parish Hall.

St Aubin is a must for a quieter holiday away from the hustle and bustle of St Helier, although only a ten minute drive away from the capital.
