Thingeyri is the oldest trading post of the Westfiords. Thriving fishing and fish processing are the main sources of employment, but services to tourists increase by the year and one of Iceland’s oldest houses , a warehouse dating back to the 18th century, is at Thingeyri.

Spectacular nature surrounds Þingeyri, the Western Fiord’s highest mountain, Kaldbakur, and many beautiful mountains and valleys. It is popular to drive to the top of the Sandafell mountain and enjoy the unobstructed view on a fine day. The distance from Reykjavik is 429 km by the Whale Bay tunnel.
