Holmavik |
Hólmavík is a peaceful fishing village on the north-western coast (commonly known as The Coasts). Although no metropolis, it has a lot to offer to the tourist. First of all, the magnificent scenery and the warm-heartedness of the people. Hólmavík is ideally situated as a base for further travel.
The oldest house in the village (1897) has been beautifully restored. It now houses Café Riis an excellent restaurant and a bit of a culture centre as well. There is live music every weekend and a theatre performance every Thursday in summer. The Café Riis also owns a good collection of old photographs of Hólmavík and it’s inhabitants. Not to mention their collection of Black Magic artefacts (In the past the Coasters were famous for Black Magic and considered quite dangerous by lesser mortals).
