Grenivík |

Grenivík is part of the Grýtubakkahreppur, in the east of Eyjafjörður. The county has 377 inhabitants, around 300 of whom live in the town, with around 100 living in the beautiful countryside south of Grenivík. The town is situated at the foot of the 1,167m high Kaldbak Mountain. Enjoyable walking paths lead to the top of Kaldbak, but for those who prefer less strenuous exercise, Þengilhöfði Mountain is a better choice. Þengilhöfði is a 260m high mountain to the south of Grenivík. Other mountains in the area, such as Blámannshattur and Laufáshnjúkur, offer a challenge to the serious hiker.
When Grenivík or Grýtubakkahreppur are mentioned, Fjarðir and Látraströnd come quickly to mind. Látraströnd and Fjarðir were once inhabited, but 1944 saw the abandonment of the last farm at Fjarðir, and only one farm is currently in use at Látraströnd. These old farm lands are a walker's paradise, and growing numbers of people are paying them a visit, both to experience the beautiful and varied nature on offer, and to get to know the history of the country, a history which appears at every step
