Blönduós

Blönduós is a town of 1,000 inhabitants in central northern Iceland, at a distance of approx. 240 km from Reykjavik,
situated at the mouth of the river Blanda. The small town is a commercial hub for an extensive livestock farming areas. The Blanda River splits the town in two, along a deep rock lined bed with murky glacier water.  Its source is in inland ice fields. There is a fine viewpoint on a raised beach bluff above the town. Accommodation in Blönduós is at the hotel Sveitarsetriđ and the guesthouse Glađheimar and The Summerhouse guesthouse, a camping site is by Norđurlandsvegur. The town has a bank, post office, hospital etc. Two galleries Spuni and Heimaiđjan offer local handicrafts.  There is a swimming pool and a golf course.
