Stornoway is the only town in the Western Isles and is therefore the main administrative and shopping centre for the Islands.  The town and its outskirts has a population of around 8,000 people. 

The Western Isles are made up of the islands of Lewis, Harris, North Uist, Benbecula, South Uist, Barra, Eriskay, Vatersay, Taransay and St Kilda.
