The fortifications of Svartholma fortress islands were built in 1748-1764 under the command of August Ehrensvärd (Compare Suomenlinna/Sveaborg). Englishmen destroyed a great part of the fortifications in1855 during the Crimean War, but there is still a lot of the fortress left. Good harbour and excellent camping site. In the summer there is a restaurant on the island. You can get to the island by a coastal vessel from the town of Loviisa. The island is popular for the pirate adventures arranged there for school children. Two quays on the north side.
