Hangö

There is a Coastguard station in Tulliniemi of Hangö with passport control and Customs clearance. Two Customs channels approach the station from the open sea. One is the 13.0 m deep Hanko/Hangö channel beginning from the rand mark Hanko 1 from the Southeast of Russarö. The other channel begins due south from Russarö. Hankoniemi has always had strategic importance in the surveillance of the sea routes in the Gulf of Finland. Many trade and war vessels have made their way through it during last millennium.

Barösund

Barösund is a beautiful strait about 5 km long. A regular traffic ferry crosses the strait. There area good spaces for mooring in the harbour. There is a shop and a refuelling point on the shore. Also on the other side of the strait there is a fuel station and a cafeteria.

In Elisaari there is a recreation area owned by the city of Helsinki and a good excursion harbour. One of Finland's largest natural oak woods is situated in the recreation area. You get a good glimpse of the area by following the nature trail. In the harbour you can rent a sauna and there are good beaches in the area.

There is a cafeteria on the shore in the summertime. A boarding house was kept here in 1925-1969.

Ekenäs 59 58,8 N - 23 25,8 E A 4.9 m-channel for ships leads to Tammisaari/Ekenäs harbour. By the boat terminals there is a guest harbour. The harbour is near the town and all services are found a short walk away. The town of Tammisaari/Ekenäs was founded in 1546 and it is still a picturesque place for an outing with its wooden houses. Most of the buildings date from the end of the 1700's and the early 1800's. The remains on Slottbacken castle date from the 1600's. The grey stone church of the town represents baroque style. The nature centre of the national park of Ekenäs archipelago is located in the harbour, in the old Customs warehouse.
Lovisa    60.25.7 N - 26.16.3 E Apart from boat services, there are also old storehouses with restaurants, boutiques and a local maritime museum in the harbour. 
Svartholm

The fortifications of Svartholma fortress islands were built in 1748-1764 under the command of August Ehrensvärd. Englishmen destroyed a great part of the fortifications in1855 during the Crimean War, but there is still a lot of the fortress left. Good harbour and excellent camping site. In the summer there is a restaurant on the island. You can get to the island by a coastal vessel from the town of Loviisa. The island is popular for the pirate adventures arranged there for school children. Two quays on the north side.

Inkoo

There is a good guest harbour in Inkoo village, where you find all the services a short walk away. There is also a refuelling point and a launch ramp. The centre of the village is next to the harbour. Cafés and shops. The church of St Nicholas in Inkoo was built in the 1200's. The only death dance frescos in the Nordic area are found in this church. St Nicholas is the patron saint of seafarers.

Boxby  

In Box service harbour you can find a shop, fuel, a waste disposal point, restrooms, and a launch ramp. By road it is possible to get to the ramparts and remains of Raasepori castle built in the 1300's. The castle served as home base for pirates at some point of time.

A service harbour with a shop, a refuel station, and a launch ramp. Also rest rooms and waste disposal points. South of the channel on Växar island is an old harbour where used to be the Ölvikshamnen sailor's tavern.

The Coastguard station of Porkkala is a passport control and Customs point. 1.5 m and 2.4 m channels lead to the station. The Customs channel from the open sea begins from the south of Rönnskär or from the Southwest of Mäkiluoto. A 2.4 m-channel goes through the narrow but well-marked strait from the east of Högholmen.
After the Second World War the former Soviet Union coerced Finland to lease the headland of Porkkala to it for 12 years. It was forbidden for Finns to go in the area. The prohibition was so strict that the windows in the passenger cars of trains using the track going through the area had to be covered. Porkkala was returned to Finland in 1956. The buildings had gone into quite a bad shape during the lease.
The channel going past the Coastguard station is mentioned already in Danish navigation guides dating back to 1240 AD. Vikings from the west continued east from here to Novgorod, or south to Rääveli/Revel, the present-day capital of Estonia; Tallinn. Gustavus Vasa, the king of Sweden and Finland, ordered that a channel be marked from Porkkala to Helsinki in the 1500's.

Skattudden, Helsingfors   A new guest harbour is being built on Katajanokka. The city centre is only a short walk from here. Helsinki was founded on June 12th, 1550 and has been the capital since 1812.
Near the harbour there are services and amusements. The busy market place and the market hall are popular sights. The President has a good view from his residence over the guest harbour. By the harbour there is also an interesting wharf for traditional boats; in particular old sailing vessels are docked there. In the summertime the foreign ministry shore to the south of the harbour bases the icebreaker fleet of the State of Finland. To the west of Katajanokka the great passenger boats take off for Stockholm and Tallinn. Many businesses arrange archipelago and sightseeing cruises off Helsinki shore.
Brunnsparken, Helsingfors

One of the boating centres in Helsinki. Many sea-spirited restaurants on the mainland and on the islands. There is a fuel station by the sound. The residents of the city are fond of long walking jaunts to Kaivopuisto and the shore. There is also a rug wash pier by the shore. There is a swimming place in the summer on Uunisaari. Why not take a sauna there. You can get to the islands by a regular traffic waterbus.
Harakka island has a nature trail 

Poutila   A large harbour in East Helsinki. There is a fast underground connection from Puotila to the centre of Helsinki. The only camping area in the City of Helsinki is on the other side of the bridge. The modern camping area offers all the services needed and cabins for rent. There is also a metro station in Rastila.
Gumbostrand   Visitor jetty, mooring is allowed for a period of two hours. Kiosque. Bus service to Helsinki on weekdays.
Kalkstrand   A visitor jetty for small boats in a harbour protected by a jetty. There is a road connection to the pier. The harbour also has a slipway. There is a separate harbour for freight ships. There was lime production in the area as early as in the 16th century. The present unit of production was built in the 1930's. The mining galleries are located even as deep as 150 m below sea level
Emsalö

The main channel for boating winds round Emäsalo from the north. A channel to Porvoo runs from the north cape of the island. The main channel goes under Emäsalo bridge. The vertical clearance of the bridge is 18.0 metres which is the lowest clearance of the main channel for boating. East of the bridge there is a service harbour where there is a kiosque in the summertime. There has been a refuel point in the harbour. In addition, there is a waste disposal point and a slipway for boats. You can see the large oil harbour and oil refinery of Sköldvik from the bridge.

Äggskär

There is a group of island in the middle of the Äggskär open sea. Äggskär has been an old pilot post. The pilot station building is still on the island. Now it functions as the base of the fishing society. There is a light at the south tip of Söderholmen and the rocky shores are just wonderful for excursions

Haiko   Haikko Manor pier. Rooms and meals available in the manor hotel. Nearby, there are the Parlastöarna islands formed by the ballast thrown overboard from ships. Telegrafberget. Old pilot cottage south of Haikko.

Valko is Loviisa's freight harbour where you can find the city's remote "port district" with its shops and bars. Fascinating milieu. Berth.

Tammio/Stämö

Tammio has been settled at least since the 16th century. The guest harbour of the charming fishing village is located right inside the surrounding jetty, by the traffic dock. Besides the 19th century buildings there is for instance a small archipelago museum in the village. The villagers used to trade in St Petersburg, Tallinn, and Memel. You can also get to the island by a coastal vessel from Mäntlahti. There are no services to speak of on the island, but the rare and beautiful village in the archipelago is worth visiting.

Hamina guest harbour is located in Pieni Vuohisaari about 1 km from the town centre. On the opposite side there is a summer restaurant of the yacht club and a sauna. Hamina is an old garrison town which has a unique town plan with ring-shaped streets.

Stuvuholmen

The main channel for boating goes to the narrow sound between Stuvuholmen and Fallholmen. The channel is well marked with leading marks and spar buoys. The club marina of Ekenäs Segellsälskapet is in the north of Stuvuholmen.

Lappvik 59 53,8 N - 23 16,0 E There is an industrial harbour in Lappvik. To the west there is a marina for small boats, where there is a visitor jetty. In the village about 0.5 km away there is a shop and a café. A Russian galley fleet took up winter quarters on Lappvik in 1713-1714. The area served as submarine base for the Russians from 1914 to 1917. English submarines visited here in 1914, and Finnish ones in 1943. There is a long beach on the west shore of Lappvik bay.
Predium   A boat route runs from the Northeast of Ekö to Predium guest harbour. Food supplies and fuel have been available at the marina in the summertime. There is a waste disposal point, restrooms, showers, and saunas in the harbour. Also a launch ramp. A Russian shipyard used to operate on the east shore of Ekö island.
Pojo   I norra ändan av viken ligger en handelshamn. Det har funnits sågverk och järnbruksindustri på området under flera århundraden. I Åminnefors finns det en gästbrygga och ett högklassigt golfcentrum med service. 

I Skuru by har man hittat några gravar från bronsåldern. Bland fynden fanns en stenålders trädocka som är den enda i sitt slag väster om Uralbergen.

A boat route 2.4 m deep leads to the harbour of Dragesviken. There is a guest pier in the harbour. There is a shop at the shore and refuelling. You can drive by car to the shore where there is a launch ramp.

Rönnskär   The island has a guest marina. The beaches and the rocky shores of Pihlajasaari are favoured swimming places for the residents of Helsinki. There is also a summer restaurant on the island. In the Southeast tip of the island there is a nudist beach.
You can get on the island from the city by a regular traffic waterbus.
Drumsö/Lauttasaari

There are many boat clubs on the east shore of Drumsö/Lauttasaari. There are guest berths at least in the harbour of Helsingfors Segelklubben in Vattuniemi. There are well equipped boat and boat gear shops, other shops, and restaurants near the harbour.

Pellinge

A 2,4-m boating channel that goes between the Pellinki islands branches off from the main boating channel. The channel can only be used by small motor boats because of a low bridge. Information on bridges can be found in official sea charts

In the strait of Tirmo the channel is sheltered but narrow. The channel markings are of high quality. In the middle of the strait there is a ferry connection serving the islanders. The boater should follow the traffic lights of the ferry, and when necessary, wait for the ferry to go first. There is a dock for boaters in the ferry harbour. The shop in the harbour sells groceries and you can get fuel from the shore. Also a café is open during the summer. Fish is sold to boaters, fresh and smoked, at the east end of the strait.

There is an old harbour used by boaters in Kabböle. In the summertime, there has been a shop near the harbour and a place for refuelling. The main channel to the west goes through low waters. The boater should follow closely the channel markings and the information of the nautical chart. There is a radar mark on a rock at the south rim of the passage west of Kabböle.

Santalahti 60°26,1’ N, 26°51,9’ E Santalahti harbour at Mussalo west shore, north of the main boating channel. There is a 1.8 m-fairway leading to the harbour. The outer piers are accessible using great tact on a boat as deep as this. The marina has good services, for instance a restaurant, a motel, and a refuelling point. There is also a waste disposal point.
Kotka 60 27,5 N - 26 57,0 E

The guest port of the town of Kotka is one of the largest boat harbours of the eastern Gulf of Finland. All services are available. The centre of the town is a short walk away. The oldest building of the town is St Nicholas Orthodox church (1795). On a fine weather you can catch a glimpse of Suursaari on the Russian side from the watchtower. The beach life is very active in summer. A widely known festival Kotkan meripäivät takes place in June. The famous imperial fishery Langinkoski with its fishing lodge is situated at the estuary of Kymijoki

From Sapokka harbour there is a coastal vessel connection to Varissaari  from May to the end of August.

The coastguard station pier of Kotka is located to the south of Sapokanlahti at the foot of Patterimäki hill. Vessels coming from overseas must go through the customs and pass control here. You get to the customs from the open sea through a 15.3-m channel. The channel is marked in the official chart series.

Santalahti, Mussalo

Kuutsalo   South of Ruotsinsalmi lies the island of Kuutsalo. Professional fishermen and other people still live on the island all year round. When the sea freezes over, but the channel is open, they keep a movable winter bridge over the channel of Ruotsinsalmi.

The visitor jetty of this peculiar fortress island is on the east shore. The north rim of the dock is reserved for island ferries. There are partly renovated ruins of the fortifications built in the 1790's on the island

A 1.8 m deep boating channel leads to Kylänlahti in Haapasaari. The guest dock is on the island's northeast shore by the church. There is another dock by the shop. Also the regularly running coastal vessel comes to this dock.
   The fishing village was founded as early as in the 17th century. The Swedish-Finnish navy used the bay as their anchorage in the years 1741, 1742 and 1790. The little church bell is from a vessel called Jenny that shipwrecked in 1870. Apart from the church there is a school and a beacon on the island. There is grocery store, lodgings and cafeteria services available on the island.

A pass control and customs clearance is located on Haapasaari. The 4.5 m deep customs channel for boaters leads from open sea to the coastguard station. Particularly the pleasure boats going to St Petersburg go through customs clearance.

Mäntlahti   From Mäntlahti harbour there is a coastal vessel connection to Kuorsalo, Tammio and Ulko-Tammio. There are also moorages for boats in the marina. Summertime, there has been a grocery store at the centre of the village a short walk from the marina. There is a spacious parking lot for cars in the marina.
Klamila 60 30,4 N - 27 28,8 E Klamila fishing port dates from the early 1990's. However, there has been quite a small turnout of fishers in the area. Consequently, there have been efforts to find other use for the harbour. There is a place to moor and a slipway in the harbour protected by a jetty. Smaller boats can continue the way northward through the unofficial waterway to the village where there is for instance a shop and a refuelling point.

Santio

Customs clearance and passport control takes place at Santio on the way to Russia and returning from there. It would be advised to schedule the inspection from Hurppu frontier guard station in advance. At a pinch you may overnight at the dock and start the journey at daybreak. Santio also functions as passport control and customs clearance point for voyagers to the Saimaa Canal

Glosholm

The ruins of the legendary Pellinki lighthouse on the island of Glosholm, where there is a coastguard station. The lighthouse was situated at the west end of the island. The lighthouse was built in the 1830's, but as early as 1862 it was replaced by Söderskär lighthouse. Pellinki lighthouse was shortened into a beacon. This is the "hat-headed whitewashed tower" that has come to be known for posterity, as the model for Tove Jansson's Moomin house of the Moomin stories. The entrance to the ruins is restricted.

Hurppu

Frontier guard station and port of refuge. The Russian court spent its leisure time in summer at the old moorage of Kavonselkä, south of Hurppu. It was here that the Tsar of Russia welcomed the German emperor and the Swedish king.

Virolahti (Vederlax)   The endpoint of the main boating channel on the Gulf of Finland. The marked 2.4 m-boat fairway stretches out to the moorage. The strait is shallow, but the fairway presented in the charts is of high quality. In the 18th and the19th centuries granite was quarried from the shores of Virolahti for the buildings of St Petersburg, e.g. the external colonnade of St Isaac's Cathedral and the obelisk of Alexander I were hewn from the granite of Virolahti.

There are many entrepreneurs in the archipelago that offer different services to visitors voyaging in the area. For instance fish is sold, there are rooms and boarding, fishing expeditions, and different nature and adventure trips.

Flintudden

The garden channel is a popular landscape route in the summer. The channel is only 6 metres wide at the narrowest, so you would do well to stay alert.

Ruotsinsalmi (Svensksund)   East of Kotka, in Ruotsinsalmi was fought the greatest battle in the maritime history of the Baltic Sea in 1790 between the navies of Sweden (including those days Finland) and Russia. Nearly 500 vessels took part in the battle. After the gunpowder smoke had cleared the Swedish-Finnish flotilla with King Gustavus III in charge witnessed the annihilation of 60 Russian vessels and saw the adversary retreat. The casualties sustained on this side were six vessels lost. More than 3000 soldiers were killed in the battle. The dead Russian soldiers from the frigate Nicholai were buried by the side of the Orthodox church. The Russians fortified Ruotsinsalmi at the end of the 1790's. The English demolished the constructions in the turmoil of the Crimean War in 1855. These days the narrow fairway going through the strait bustles with trading ship traffic.
Porvoo/Borgå

Porvoo is a historic town in many respects. There assembled for the first time the representatives of the estates, or parliament if you like. It has been a trading place at the mouth of the Porvoonjoki from time immemorial. These days the old town is one of Finland's finest old towns preserved. There are berths and services for visitors by the shores of Porvoonjoki. There is plenty to see and to experience in the town. A great place for replenishing food supplies

Bergarholmen   Fuel and groceries are available at the boat harbour of the island during the summer. The armoured naval vessel Väinämöinen was hiding by the rocks of the southwest shore in the 1940's after its sister ship Ilmarinen was destroyed by a sea mine
Brändö   Casino with a dock. There are many embassies in this part of town. On the opposite shore of the sound due east of Kulosaari there is a boat harbour with a refuelling point in the summertime. Kulosaari is part of Helsinki these days. Originally summerhouse settlement was built in the area in the early 20th century, and the island was an independent commune in 1921-1946. Those days the islanders owned the second-biggest merchant fleet in the country. An underground station.
