Orissaare in Estonia

Saaremaa's second largest township has developed thanks to a road connecting the eastern and western regions of the province. Orissaare was the landing site for mail boats until the construction of a causeway between Muhu and Saaremaa (Ösel) (1894-1897). It is useful to request a guide from the local tourist office. They would surely recommend a visit to the open-air museum at the village of Koguva on Muhu island, the church of Muhu (built in the 13th century and renovated in 1994), and Eemu Windmill that is still used for grinding meal. For more exotic experiences, horseback riding is available on the island of Muhu. In the harbour you'll be able to see a wreck of the so called Maasilinna ship that dates back to the 16th century. It was raised from the sea bottom a couple of years ago. According to a survey, yachtsmen considered Orissaare Estonia's best visitor harbour, after Nasva, in 1995.
