Nyköbing Mors Havn

Everyone knows that Harald Bluetooth brought Christianity to Denmark. Very few know that it all began on Mors. Legend tells that Harald waged war against the German Emperor, Otto II. The Danish army was defeated and retreated up through Jutland where it ended on Mors. Here the final battle took place. The Danes lost, and Harald and all of his men assumed Christianity. A Norwegian army, which had arrived to reinforce Harald, suffered the same fate. The christening took place in a spring, which still runs in Riskjær, close by Legind Vejle.

The most wellknown of the legends of Mors tells of the wicked King Fegge who, out of jealousy, murdered his brother Horvendel. After the murder he married his brother’s widow Geruth and thus became step-father to Prince Hamlet. The royal residence stood on Feggeklit and after Hamlets revenge, King Fegge was buried on top of the cliff, his grave is surrounded by great stones.

Sillerslev

Sillerslev of South Mors has a pleasant harbour environment for anglers and sailors, and a unique bathing beach. In the course of the 1950’s and 60’s the harbour was established as a commercial fishing harbour. Prior to that the fishermen took their catch from the coast, and it was not until after many years of stubborn battle that the harbour was built. There are still fishing boats at Sillerslev, as well as a yachting harbour.

The charming area around the fishing harbour and marina at Sillerslev has its own special atmosphere.

Skagen

Very nice fishing port with good facilities for yachts. Popular place with many Swedes and Norwegians on week-end trips. Sometimes they have a noisy party on Saturday night. In July the harbour might be (over)crowded. However the number of Fishing Vessels is decreasing, thereby leaving more and more space to yachts.
Attractions: Visit "Grenen" the joint where the Skagerak (North Sea) and the "Kattegat" meets. Heavy over falls and rough sea. White beach with dunes and marram grass. Skagen has more sunshine than other places in Denmark due to foehn effect from the Norwegian mountains. Skagen has attracted many artists because of its very special azure sky light. Visit "Skagen Museum", the art gallery, where the most valuable paintings can be seen. All provisions can be bought in Skagen. Visit the early morning "Fish Auction". Excellent restaurants in the harbour and neighborhood. In the month of June, there is a one week "Song Festival" with many foreign groups and artists.

Provincial town. Fishing harbour. Many visitors berth. Beach and a nice "summer town". Great nature in and around.

Læsø

This 114 square kilometer island is situated in the middle of the Cattegat and is thus only accessible by sea or by air. The island is, however, well worth a visit as it consists of beautiful areas of nature; the sky is clear, the air is refreshing and the quiet of the night is only broken by the sounds of nature.

Some holidaymakers might find that life on Læsø is too simple and quiet; there are no large hotels with night clubs and neon signs and there is not even one single traffic light on the whole of the island. However, once you have visited the island you cannot help but get attracted by the calm and relaxed attitude of the inhabitants of Læsø; only very few visitors decide not to return to Læsø once they have experienced the wonderful atmosphere of the island.

On Læsø we produce our own salt and make roofs with seaweed. We take pride in serving fresh fish and Norway lobsters and enjoy a game of golf with the visitors of the island on one of Denmark’s most beautiful golf courses situated very close to the sea.

You can travel to Læsø from Frederikshavn by the new Læsø ferry in an hour and a half. This journey is actually very comfortable and gives you a lovely start to your holiday.

Vesterø

57º17.93' N 10º55.65' E

"Fishing harbour at NW end of the island Læsø. Enjoy biking around on this special flat island. Highest top 8 meters above sea level. Visit "Rønnerne" by special tractor bus which is able to go on high tide. Look at the "Saltsyderiet" the old house, where they make medieval table salt from sea water using a huge fireplace."

[Anholt map]

Don’t miss this spectacular Island in the middle of the "Kattegat". Large harbour with space for 400-500 visitors.
Fresh fish, Lobsters and the small "Norway Lobsters" (Jomfruhummer) are all available here.
In July it might be quite crowded. I have never seen an island with more different nature than Anholt.
The Westerly part is very green, high real white sand dunes. Excellent beaches with white sand like sugar. After you have left, you will enjoy the fine sand everywhere in the boat during many weeks. Only about 100 residentials on this island. The visitors are mainly sailors. Enjoy it in summer weather. When weather is gray and rainy, it's better to stay away.
The Eastern part is a real desert and is a very sensitive nature reserve. You might see many Seals at this end.
Hire a bike (don’t use your own if you intend to have it for a long time) and take a ride around the whole island, riding on the wet part of the beach.

Haverslev

Approaching the harbour is straightforward. The entrance is easily recognized by the port leading light, a white building with a red line across it. The moorings inside the eastern outer harbour wall are reserved for pilot boats. The end section of the pile jetty on the northern side of the E basin is reserved for the ferry which docks here for the night. This section of the jetty is marked by a yellow stripe.

Yachts should moor in the western part of the harbour, where there are moorings at pontoons with stern posts in the inner section, or in the outer part of the harbour where mooring is at fixed jetties with stern posts. It is also posssible to moor alongside the quays. The W outer basin, which was previously choppy, is now sheltered by a breakwater. In calm weather you can moor alongside the quay on the outside of the outer harbour walls.
Beware of the current running across the entrance.
The harbour is lit.

In addition to the 130-berth marina, the harbour is home to a number of recreational fishermen and some large fishing vessels in the fishing harbour. The pilot boats responsible for this part of Limfjorden also dock here. Hals Boat Club has opened its doors to visiting sailors, and the harbour is a popular destination with locals as well as visitors. Just opposite the harbour are well-preserved fortifications dating back to 1654, with a moat, powder tower and armoury, The local museum now occupies the buildings. The symbol of the town are the jawbones of a 9-tonne blue whale, which stand in the square. The jawbones of a Boryvalus, shot in the Arctic Ocean in 1868, used to be there but a lorry driver unfortunately drove into them in 1953 and, given their fragility, they did not survive. A Norwegian whaling company, based in Sandefjord, gave the town the present set.

From the green buoy off Voerså, set a compass course for a point at 57° 08´7 N / 10° 26´5 E o.4 nm E of the harbour entrance on 270° true course.
Note: An E buoy approximately 1.2 nm S of the harbour has been cancelled.
Entry to the harbour is via a dredged channel. Depth in the channel and the harbour is 2 m. The channel is marked by two green and two red buoys. The outer ones are top-marked. There are three basins in the harbour. The marina occupies the northern basin. Mooring is at berths with stern posts. Yachts may also moor alongside the quays in the other two basins. The southern and northern jetties in the middle basin have recently been renovated with new wooden piles, electricity, light and water. The harbour is lit. When approaching at night the white vertical fluorescent light between the red and green harbour lights.

In the two southern basins the atmosphere remains that of a fishing harbour, with four registered fishing vessels. Long lines of tool sheds surround the harbour, and the boatyard with its slipway adds to the atmosphere. However, it is mostly yachts that use the harbour now.
An interesting little museum has been set up in one of the old sheds. Rows of little beach huts dominate the dunes along the beach to the S of the harbour, where there is plenty of activity throughout the summer. The shallow waters to the SW of the harbour are excellent for windsurfing.
