Funen has always been known as the garden of Denmark. Here it is so mild, flowering and pleasant. Not least in Kerteminde, the 1000 year old landing harbour and fishing town in the watershed between two worlds: The Funen archipelago and the fjord on one side - the open water of Storebælt and the great sea and foreign countries on the other side.
In the middle of the fjord and belt, Kerteminde has become special, a mixture of provincial town and a gateway to the world.
The men of the sea have always had influence in Kerteminde, but to-day the fishermen are not alone in the bay. One can see thousands of yachts come into the big marina during the year.
Narrow streets, small houses with red roofs and big old merchant houses draw visitors by car, bus and not least by bicycle - they have a beatiful ride into the baragin. Near Langebro, Kerteminde´s most famous lady bids you welcome to the town. Robert Lund-Jensen´s beatiful sculpture of the fisher girl has become synonymous with Kerteminde, because it is connected through the wellknown song "Min Amanda".
In the small town which King Erik of Pomerania gave the status of a market town on 7th December 1413, history is all around you: In the fine parish church from 1476, which is dedicated to Sct.Laurentius, patron saint of seafarers. At the museum in Councillor Karsten Iversen´s house from 1630. At the refound old town well in the main street and in the old half-timbered merchant houses.
History is also in the Johannes Larsen Museum. This beatiful house where the great bird artist worked, still stands as if the painter was just out on a treck....On the high hill next to the art museum, history is also in the arms of Svanemøllen, and on the beach near by thousands of visitors enjoy the great swimming days of the summer.

Kerteminde Harbour and Marina, Marinavej, 5300 Kerteminde. Harbourmaster: John Hakmann can be reached weekdays between 11 am and noon at 6532 3733. |
A professional harbour as well as a large, modern harbour for pleasure craft. It is just a short walk to the town centre from your boat, and modern facilities are of course available. As the marina is quite popular, it is a good idea to reserve space. |
