Just 150 years ago, Esbjerg was nothing more than a few wind-swept farms. The official opening of the harbour in 1878, however, led to the rapid growth of the town. Today, Esbjerg - with its 83,000 inhabitants - is the regional centre of western Denmark.

A thriving commercial and business centre

The business structure of Esbjerg is wideranging - the dynamic, informal environment ensuring a thriving business life.
Starting new companies and getting new projects underway is also extremely simple in Esbjerg.
Furthermore, Esbjerg offers easy access to both the Danish and international market.
The construction of the Esbjerg motorway completes the modern traffic infrastructure, with direct access to the European motorway network as well as international rail, plane and ship connections.

A city to feel good in

An attractive urban environment, with a wide range of retail shops, is greatly appreciated by local residents and visitors from all over the world.

Art and culture also flourish in Esbjerg. The Esbjerg Performing Arts Centre, designed by the architect Jørn Utzon, complements the already-existing cultural attractions on offer, forming a perfect setting for a whole bouquet of cultural activities. And the new swimming stadium, Svømmestadion Danmark, enhances the city's amenities for active athletes at all levels.
Esbjerg is close to some of Europe's best bathing beaches, with great potential for outdoor activities.

Bound for the future

There is always something happening in Esbjerg. New measures being put into practice. New generations taking over from previous ones. And young people do not have to leave the city to get qualifications to meet tomorrow's requirements. For there are plenty of courses of further education - up to and including university level.

Esbjerg is a truly future-oriented city.
