Noršoyar

This area comprises of the islands Bordoy, Kunoy and Vidoy connected by road-dams at Hvannasund and at Haraldssund, and the off lying islands Kalsoy to the west and Fugloy and Svinoy to the east.

The main town Klaksvķk, (pop. about 5,500) is the centre for modern fish processing industry and related industries.

In Klaksvķk the church Christianskirkjan is of particular interest. It is built with a close look to old Faroese building traditions. Its interior is of a quite certain beauty.

The villages Noršdepil and Hvannasund are two very cosy villages on the shores of the narrow sound Hvannasund between the islands of Boršoy and Višoy.

Visiting the islands Svķnoy and Fugloy is easy and at reasonable prices. The passenger boat leaves from Hvannasund every morning. Afternoons on Mondays and Fridays. On other days a stop-over will be necessary. However it is possible to charter a passenger boat for extra trips.

The village Višareiši at the northern end of Višoy is located very beautifully in a valley stretching south-east - north-west between the coasts. To the north and south of the valley are two high mountains 844 metres (2,770 feet) and 751 metres (2,465 feet). These mountains are rich with birds.

The northern end of Višoy - the Cape Enniberg - is the highest cape in the world, rising vertically 750 metres (2,460 feet) from the sea.

Hill walking from the village Višareiši northwards to mount Villingadalsfjall and to Cape Enniberg is a beautiful and interesting trip through areas rich with birds.

The road from Višareiši south-eastward to Dalar (3,5 Km - 2 miles), a tour can be done either by car or simply by walking.

In this area there are ample opportunities for fishing trips. Given the narrow sounds with strong tidal current people unacquainted with these waters should not go fishing or sailing on their own. A guide or boatswain is strongly recommended.
