Mykines |
This small island is west of Sørvágs fjord. The island is famous for its bird cliffs and rich birdlife. As landing on Mykines only is possible in favourable weather-conditions, the island may be without connection for several days at the time. For tourists waiting to visit the island, it is a good advice to plan a stay in Vágar, awaiting the possibility to go to Mykines.
Tourists should understand that access to this particular island may be very difficult. Rough seas may prevent the ferry from sailing. However, a helicopter service is available.
There are guest houses in Mykines. The Tourist Office is able to assist tourists wishing to visit the island.
The Faroe Islands Tourist Board runs a local tourist information, which will arrange for guided tours on the island and neighbouring Mykineshólmur.
