Kirkjubøur was the medieval Bishop’s residence of the Faroe Islands (12th to 16th century) and the cultural centre.
In Kirkjubøur will be found a medieval church, remains of the Bishop’s palace and walls of a 13th century Cathedral.
The famous Roykstova built before a.d. 1350 and one of the oldest wooden buildings in Northern Europe is even today occupied by the resident farmer.
