Throughout history, Ebeltoft and Mols have been popular tourist resorts. Some of the first public baths were situated in Ebeltoft, and the great natural beauty of the countryside in many parts of the Municipality of Ebeltoft has always attracted many tourists.
"Mols Bjerge" is the largest and most well-known area, the undulating hills dating back to the Ice Age. Burial mounds and old fields bear witness to Man's use of the area over thousands of years. The varied countryside of "Mols Bjerge" is home to an abundance of wild plants and animals. There is a fine network of roads, but why not leave your car at one of the car parks and explore the countryside on foot. At the many information points in the hills you will find folders from the National Forest and Nature Agency with maps of sign-posted footpaths.
South of "Mols Bjerge" you will find the peninsula of Helgenæs. In some descriptions one comes across headlines such as "Helgenæs - the heart of Denmark". And this is no exaggeration. If you place one arm of a compass on Helgenæs, you will see that the heart of Denmark is, indeed, Helgenæs. Helgenæs is something special, its flora and fauna unlike any found in the rest of the country. Examples are quaking grass and maiden pink which add an attractive colour to the aquavit. Many artists have come to settle on the peninsula, and Helgenæs is rich in art galleries.
On the northern outskirts of the Municipality of Ebeltoft, you will find a countryside just as unique. "Jernhatten" near Arnakke is host to an unusual and very special flora, while also offering a beautiful view across the Kattegat to the island of Hjelm. The island was home to the Danish nobleman Marsk Stig who was exiled for his involvement in the murder of the Danish King Erik V Klipping in Finderup Lade in 1286. The hills at Hyllested Bjerge rise to 50-60 metres above sea level, overlooking the sea, and are good for walking and a perfect destination for a real family picnic.

In addition to the above areas, Mols is rich in idyllic villages and lanes, all waiting to be explored. Near the lake of Stubbe Sø, you will find Ebeltoft Family Park and put-and-take lakes, offering plenty of opportunities for relaxation, play and fun activities. The attractive parkland is also home to 550 animals of 130 different species.

vel_4.jpg (6378 bytes)Ebeltoft is famous for its genuine market town atmosphere. Foremost among the many interesting buildings that line the cobbled streets is the old town hall - Denmark's, even the world's smallest. The town hall is open all year round, not just as a museum, but also as a registry office to which couples come from far and near. South of the town hall with the main streets of Overgade and Nedergade lie the houses which are generally thought of as constituting the old quarter of Ebeltoft. The very oldest buildings in Ebeltoft are, however, found far further north, i.e. in Nygade and Skindergade. But it is in the area south of the old town hall that you can see the crooked old timber-frame houses, which are so typical of Ebeltoft. In the summer, the hollyhocks which line the streets and roads add further to the idyll. In this part of Ebeltoft you will also find the doll museum "Missers Dukkemuseum" with a small, but nostalgic collection of toys.
Ebeltoft Museum lies just behind the old town hall. While putting on changing exhibitions, the museum is also home to a quite unusual collection - the Siamese collection. The objects come from Siam, now Thailand, and were collected in the period 1914-1933. The old dye works "Farvergården" is situated halfway up the pedestrian street and boasts one of the most well-preserved and atmospheric courtyards in Ebeltoft.

Over the last few years, Ebeltoft has gradually developed into a small glass kingdom, mainly due to the Glasmuseum which is located in the old Customs and Exercise House ner the harbour on the coast road, Strandvejen. This museum is not a place which displays dusty, old objects, but home for the most exiting and impressive, contemporary glass art collection consisting of objects from all over the world. In the museum garden there is a glass studio where young glass-blowers demonstrate their skills during the summer months, from May until September. For those captivated by the magic of watching the glass being blown, there are also four other glass-blowers to visit in Ebeltoft.

The most spectacular sight in Ebeltoft is the frigate "Fregatten Jylland". At 72 metres it is the world's longest wooden frigate. The frigate was launched in 1860. After an eventful life, the beautifully restored frigate was opened to the public in 1994.

From mid-June until mid-August, the town crier's song can be heard throughout the streets of Ebeltoft; tours start at 8 pm at the old town hall, where they also end at 10 pm.

Fregatten Jylland
Throughout the summer, numerous annual activities and events are organised in the area. The biggest and busiest summer festivals are held in Ebeltoft and on Mols and Helgenæs. At the weekend closest to midsummer, there is Midsummer Rock in Ebeltoft, a music festival for all the family with famous and popular Danish rock bands. At the beginning of August, the music festival "The Classical" is held at different and unconventional venues throughout the Municipality.

Ebeltoft/Mols Tourist Information Bureau organises a number of different information meetings and family tours during the summer months. During the school holidays (last week of June - first week of August) an information meeting is held every Monday at 10 am at Judogården, followed by a guided tour of the town. On Wednesdays Molbo-Jens leads a guided tour of "Mols Bjerge", and on Thursdays you can go angling with Martin Hedegård on Helgenæs. Every Tuesday in August we travel back in time with Troels Sehsted near the lake of Vænge Sø on Helgenæs.

From the starboard buoy that marks the N side of “Sandhagen”, take a 90° true course until you reach the starboard and port buoys that mark the fairway to the commercial port.
The commercial port’s W harbour wall has been extended 50 m towards the NE, where a pier head has been built that needs to be rounded to starboard in order to enter the harbour.
A breakwater has been built out between the frigate “Jylland” towards the SW and to the commercial harbour.
There are always many fishing nets off the coast at Ebeltoft.
The harbour is an old commercial port where two pontoons have been established for visitors. Mooring is at berths with stern posts or, for larger boats, alongside the quay at the far end of the harbour.
The harbour is dredged to a depth of 3 m alongside the pontoons and 4.5 m elsewhere.
The harbour can be approached by day or by night.

Due to its size, the large commercial port is often visited by tall ships.
A number of vessels which offer angling day trips operate from this harbour.
The commercial port is neighbor to the frigate “Jylland”, a museum dock and activities involving the restoration and building of old wooden ships. An old lightship and a fishing vessel, amongst others, are on display in the museum dock. The town of Ebeltoft is situated only a few hundred meters from the harbour. The town is an atmospheric market town with a wealth of restored, old houses and a network of winding, cobbled streets.

"Good Marina. Also a fishing harbour and commercial harbour. Very picturesque old town. During the summer you can see and hear the "Night watchman’s Songs" every full hour. Old maritime museum: the restored "Fregatten Jylland" a frigate from mid. 19th century as well as the old "Light Vessel" under restoration. Visit the "Glasmuseet", an exhibition of fine glass arts."
