Scedro Island nature reserve |
The island of Scedro is tranquil and undisturbed, perfect for relaxation on its beaches and in the crystal clear blue waters. The island is situated in the Korcula channel. In Rake Cove you can see the mosaics that once belonged to a Roman villa underwater. The island has been protected since 1972. Its value as protected landscape lies in indentedness of its coast and its plant life consisting of typical Mediterranean mixture of forests and dense evergreen undergrowth. On the island there are several old houses and only one permanent inhabitant. There are also archeological localities both on the island itself and on the surrounding sea bed. The basic phenomenon could be endangered with fire or illegal construction.
