Ile Rousse

In 1758, Pascal Paoli, one of the leaders of Independent Corsica, wished to compete with the Genovese trading posts of Calvi and Algajola. In order to do so, he created a harbour on the former Roman site of Rubico Rocega (the Red Rock).

Today, Ile Rousse is a peaceful town where one can enjoy a nice sandy beach all year long.
