| Mindelo | Sao Vicente | Mindelo harbour is well protected, but the winds from the north are strong. Most yachts choose to anchor, but there is an old boat in the innermost part of the harbour that offers mooring, shower, power and guard. Those who anchor it is advisable to make a deal with one of the people on the beach, with offices in their pockets. They offer services like dinghy guarding, guiding to harbour office and immigration, purchase of fuel, water and washing. | |
| Tarrafal | Sao Nicolau | Calling
Tarrafal
a harbour is a slight overstatement. It is an anchorege, open to the
south, next to the commercial fishing and ferry harbour. There is no
point in looking for shelter at the pier as you will be turned away when
a ship is expected.
So you anchor a bit W of the harbour on 7 m of water. The bottom
consists of black sand with excellent holding. You will often have strong winds from the beach so you must make sure that your anchor holds you or will see your yacht disappear to sea. The best place to land with your dinghy is at the pier. There you can use a ramp so that you don't have to surf ashore. |
