Vormsi
(Ormsö), is the name of the lesser island situated between Dagö and the
Estonian mainland. Ormsö is (together with Runö in the Bay of Riga)
"the" Swede-island. Here was Swedish the language until World War II.
Now there are fewer persons talking Swedish, but family connections to Sweden
are many, and most of the villages on the island have Swedish names.
The port is situated at
Sviby ferry bridge, at the south side of Ormsö. You approach the safe water
buoy S. of Isl. Hobulaid and follow the buoyage into the port. Coming closer you
also see the leading line.
The little ferry from the mainland also stops at Sviby. Behind the ferry bridge
there is some space for yachts. Down at the bridge there are no buildings.
