In SW you find the farreaching
Sörve peninsula, with the lighthouse carrying the same name as the
peninsula Both town and peninsula are worth a visit!
The peninsula is however worth a visit "from ashore" The nature
is barren with a lot of junipers and herbs. The coast is low, the stony
beaches outside the "juniperbelt" are dominated by limestone,
in some places in the form off coastal cliffs.
Far out, at the southern point, stands the large coastal lighthouse
"Sörve". From here you can see the Latvian coast.
Nasva is primarily a yacht club, situated 10 km W of
Kuressaare. Roomassaare
on the other hand, is situated 4km SE of the town. It is a commercial port,
with a separate yacht section.
Nasva
is the better choice. The longer distance to town did not feel like a problem.
Taxi is easy available and cheap. We did not get disappointed.
The discomfort of the longer distance to the town is no problem. Taxi
is cheap here. The service was really good. We found a bar, a sauna, electricity.
The club had keepers looking after yachts both day and night.
You approach Nasva by looking up the free water buoy marking the beginning
of the leading line. Follow the buoyage towards the port. (Due to
sanddrift,
the leading line is not reliable, follow the buoys!)
Roomassaare
have got a new harbour for yachts. In the harbour you find a service building
with WC and shower. In the area we also found a small shop.
Even if the distance to Kuressaare is shorter than from
Nasva, you need
a taxi or bus to go into town.
The service in the harbour worked well.
Swedish sailors though, did
warn us for unmarked shoals in the harbour. Take it easy when you approach!
