Flores is situated on 

The name means flowers, after the enormous profusion of them which cover the island. Flores is considered to be one of the prettiest islands of the archipelago, not only because of the flowers which cover even the deepest valleys, but also because of the bluish and greenish waterfalls that fall into the ocean. It is an ideal place for water sports.

Flores is according to many travel-agencies the most beautiful of all of the islands. Well, I don't quite agree about that. Flores has a beautiful, tuff and savage nature, which can be difficult to discover as the climate on Flores is not the very best, it often gives low hanging clouds. Because of the low hanging clouds, you may expect that the airport can be closed for shorter periods. Perhaps for a whole day or more. So save an extra day while you are planning your holiday on Flores.

Flores is situated somewhat isolated W of Corvo. Flores is therefore perhaps not your first choice, when you are planning your holiday on Azores for the first time. Flores is about 13 x 17 km and has a lot of beautiful nature. Here lives about 4.000 people.

The biggest and most important town is Santa Cruz. (Every island has a town named Santa Cruz). Very close to Santa Cruz is the island's airport. From here you can fly to Corvo.

On Flores there is an French space observatory. Headquarter ( office ) is situated in the center of Santa Cruz. It is possible to stay at this center for a small money. There are few residencias around. Most of them don't provide much service and charm. Several private have rooms for rent. Ask your travel agent about places to stay before you leave for Flores.

Around  the islands there are a few other residencias.
